Saddened by Facebook Spam

I was saddened today to have been spammed in Facebook.
I thought it was purer than that.
A very scantily clad lady invited me to be her friend. I declined.
The reason I like Facebook so much much more than MySpace is that you usually don’t get spammed with random requests from unknowns. It was a more genuine experience with real friends - people you actually know - contacting you and getting (back) in touch.
I hear that this huge hike in popularity is putting off the early adopters of Facebook - as the applications get more commercial and the audience grows apparently they feel (for lack of a better explanation) that their privacy is being invaded - it’s no longer such a tight knit gang.
So much personal information goes into building profiles. As we want our genuine connections to get in touch with us on Facebook we tend to put the truth, rather than some of our alter egos that have the freedom to not necessarily be truthful ala MySpace.
The potential for the information to be used fraudulently is frightening.
Beware with what information you reveal.

Marketing Sherpa have blogged about just this topic on 25th of June (a few days after us) read the article here; http://www.marketingsherpa.com/article.php?ident=30023. Concluding that spam just gets ignored and deleted.
