Twitter v Facebook. Who’ll win?

I heard a great comment on NPR this week; “Twitter is already OVER - even US Congressmen are using it”.
Social Media seems to be so fadish - look at how Facebook took over from MySpace?
I suggest the terminology is wrong. It is not ‘over’ but ‘comon place’ instead.
In the begining only the bold had a website. Now if your company doesn’t you don’t get taken seriously, or they think one is on it’s way. A website is as integral/common in your branding and marketing mix as a sales presentation, letterhead or business cards. It is just one of your tools. Companies now have a facebook fan page, or Tweet as part of their marketing mix too. That’s progress.
Working out who’ll be the largest/most popular social networking site in the future is hard. The internet enthusiasts are fickle and change quickly. I read an interesting article seeing if Facebook will surpass google on ZDnet. Sam Diaz suggests not, owing to Facebooks ‘clunky’ new look and the rise of tweeters out there. Their rate of growth can’t go on (or can it?).
Speaking of which, isn’t it delightful to see how the likes of the hugely popular personality and performer Stephen Fry have integrated the various widgets and tools in his online presence!
What is the next big thing?! Researching Millennial generation sites revealed sites I’d never heard off (Oh the shame) and this audiences altruistic tendancies. When will the young 20 somethings generate more traffic than the 30 plus generation hooked on Facebook? Could the sites popularity be driven by demographics rather than functionality (or something else)? If only it were that simple.
