Working online in the air

The Department for Transport has published their guidelines for air travel post the terror alerts in London. There’s much debate about how long these restrictions will be in place. I don’t think we will ever be able to take our notebook computers onto the plane with us again. [update: ok, i am wrong, just received news that we are now allowed to take our notebook computers on board! after revisions to the guidelines have been made]
I agree with Espen, travelling without all our gadgets and expecting the Airlines to provide us with the technology on board is the way in which the current service provision needs to change to cater for the security threats.
Yet another argument for web-based, hosted solutions - having access to all your files and applications anywhere in the world, why should the sky be any different? Niall Cook, recently experienced the powers of wi-fi in the sky.
Whilst tools supplied to us by the Googles of the world are helping; our enterprises still need to provide us with this type of resource too. Security on-board the aircraft isn’t the only important factor though, we need to be able to operate behind our corporate firewalls: EASILY and without compromising data security. At the moment, even if the airlines gave us terminals on board most people couldn’t access the data or applications they need to. Plenty of opportunity here I am sure you will agree.
