The US 2012 presidential nomination campaign has started. The delivery of choice for annoucements is social media with Facebook, YouTube and Twitter all featuring heavily.

President Barack Obama’s team announced his candidacy intentions with a YouTube endorsement video, select text and emails. His team is supporting his reelection campaign with many digital and mobile initiatives.

Former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich plans were made public via Facebook and Twitter yesterday (9th May 2011).

Mitt Romney — former Massachusetts governor — announced his 2012 presidential bid via a YouTube video in April 2011.

Tim Pawlenty – former Minnesota Governor - also announced his bid via Facebook in March 2011.

The 2008 campaign was differentiated from the past with it’s focus on digital implementation and tools. With the introduction of ipads, iphone and android technology etc since then, expect to see an uptake in mobile marketing iniatives, as well as innovative and tried and trusted digital tools.
